Vibe coding a doodling app
Sometimes you have an idea that your brain just won’t let go of.
A few years ago, I had one of these ideas, but never did anything about it. Fast-forward to today, it's feasible to build novel ideas with AI, so I finally took the plunge.
The idea: a doodling app powered by chance.

Each time you tap or click, the app randomly chooses colors, brushstrokes, and imagery. You have some creative control, but also novelty and surprise in the creation process.
I was curious if these mechanics could generate interesting artwork, and hoping the process was fun.
With a few weekends and some iteration, I created Tapadoodle. I used Replit as my AI Agent to help me build and deploy the app. I’m mostly happy with the results and was able to accomplish 90% of the features I wanted. Also, I can easily improve things when I get a new idea. No emails to an engineer. No waiting for a reply. Instant collaboration and deployment. Pretty cool!
